Nambour - Kilkivan - Nambour
(31 January 2009 - 1 February 2009)

The troops assembled at Boyley's palace on Friday night in anticipation of a two day blast from Nambour to Kilkivan and back, staying at the Kilkivan pub on Saturday night. Boyley put on a gourmet BBQ on Friday night to fuel us up before hitting the trails. Roll call on Saturday was at 6:00am and we set off shortly after that. Rain from Friday night made the tracks greasy but only added to the fun, with throttle steering
the order of the day. 20kms in we had our first stop with two flat tyres. Boyley did a great job of supervising Bill while Bill changed the tyres in record time. The only other thing that "broke" on the ride was Boyley's internal GPS device, but luckily Bill was on hand to point us in the direction of some first rate single track. The rest of the day was spent with the throttle
open and the front wheel pointed towards the pub.

The boys were getting thirsty. At the pub we had a great feed. The Kilkivan pub is the home of Australia's last boxing tent and Boyley decided he would be back to throw his hat in the ring for go at "Afro Savage" or "Kid Goanna". After Boyley's tyre changing efforts it wouldn't be surprising if Bill is planning on paying the "Birdsville Mauler" a few dollars to sort Boyley out. Sven (Ben) had a crack at sweet talking the Swedish barmaids, who can blame him especially after Matt found out they were quite partial to wrestling with items more commonly found in the desert bar at Sizzler. Pavlova for desert was a treat too. Everyone retired after a few hours of "refreshments" to recharge for the next day - from all accounts Westy and Boyley got re-acquainted on Saturday night as Boyley wasn't walking right on Sunday.

On Sunday we were up early to prep our bikes for the days ride and Boyley was on hand to dish out some great advice on suspension set-up (thanks Boyley - This guy knows bikes!). When we set off we were met with probably the best riding condition anyone could have
hoped for. The rain had stopped and there was no dust, just great tracks with minimal road sections (although on the small section of tarmac Brian showed everyone how do a 2km long wheelstand). Bill and Boyley sorted the boys from the men with some very long hill climbs which were a bit slippery after the rain but great fun. As always Bill and Boyley were on hand to help out if anyone got stuck.
I have been on other tours in NSW and QLD and after two days and nearly 400kms with
SCAR Tours I reckon they put on the best show north or south of the border. A big thanks to
Steve in the support vehicle too for keeping both bikes and bodies fuelled up all weekend.
